SQL Thinking Patterns: The Fast Way to Crack Complex Use Cases

The SQL Thinking Patterns Workshop was born to bridge the gap between the business question and the code, and to provide experienced analysts with a strategic toolbox for solving complex data problems.

This is not just another standard SQL course; it is a journey into the analytical mindset. We don’t start from code, but from the business need: how to break down a problem, what thinking patterns are appropriate for each use case, and how to build queries that are not only technically correct, but also provide actionable insights.

Moving from a vague business wish to precise and actionable logic

Knowledge of recurring logical structures that allow solving complex problems

How to design and build queries that are easy to maintain, debug, and share with other team members.

Analyzing real industry case studies, dealing with "dirty" data, and reaching sharp business insights.

How to use artificial intelligence tools as "operations" while maintaining professional control, logical accuracy, and business understanding.

How to extract exactly the necessary structure from SQL without manual "corrections" in Excel.

Learn from someone who lives and breathes data

The team that leads our courses doesn’t just come from the classroom – but also from the field. They live the world of data every day, teach from real experience, and know how to explain the most complex things in the clearest way. In short – you’re in good hands.

Ram Kedem – has lived in the world of Data for over 15 years, led diverse projects, professionally managed leading colleges, mentored tens of thousands of people, and wrote literature in the field of Data that is sold worldwide.

Gadi Chrust is the head of the analysis team at Plarium. Plarium is one of the largest social gaming companies in the world with over 400 million users. Gadi has many years of technical and business experience, and as part of his work he has interviewed dozens of analysts.

Michael Winner – Principal Data Scientist at the startup Yess. In addition, he worked and led data science initiatives and teams at AppsFlyer and Digital Turbine. Over 7 years of experience as a data scientist and team manager in the field, and 10 years of experience in the data field.

Dotan Antin is an analyst and BI developer at Applied Materials, a company that develops and manufactures systems that form the infrastructure of the global chip industry.
Dotan brings with him extensive experience and knowledge, and as part of his work he deals with various BI technologies.

Aviv Gelfand is a data scientist at the tech company Darrow AI. He holds a BA in statistics and data science from the Hebrew University. He is writing a thesis in the field of language models and methods to save runtime and memory in them, as part of his master’s degree at the Hebrew University.

Omar Bieber is the Head of BI at Superplay, one of the fastest growing gaming startups in the world. Omar brings with him extensive experience in the BI world from companies like Playtika and HiBob.

This is what it sounds like when learning really makes a difference.

Building data capabilities – together with leading organizations

Everything you need to know about the course

We believe that data teams no longer need a generic “SQL class.” Therefore, the workshop syllabus is not a rigid list of topics, but a co-construction process designed to ensure maximum relevance to your daily life.

How does it work?

  • Diagnosis and mapping: Before the meeting, we meet with the professional leaders to get a background on the participants, understand the data tools in the organization (BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.) and what the existing professional gaps are.
  • Syllabus adaptation : The syllabus is built around those challenges, incorporating the thinking patterns that are most appropriate for solving them.

Although the content is personalized, in each workshop we touch on our ironclad principles:

  1. Solution Design : How to approach a business problem before writing the code.
  2. Advanced Logic : Smart use of Window Functions and CTEs to solve edge problems.
  3. Efficiency & AI : Writing efficient code and intelligent use of AI tools to improve productivity.
  4. Clean Code : An architecture that will turn your queries into a readable and maintainable organizational asset.

During the course, each student will receive access to the learning management system, which is designed to enrich the learning experience and assist in achieving course objectives.

The system offers a wide range of tools and resources that enable effective and convenient learning:

  • Study materials: All the content required for the course, including presentations, lesson recordings, practice files, and more, are available through it.
  • Discussion forum: Possibility to communicate with lecturers and fellow course members, ask questions and receive answers and clarifications.
  • Submitting assignments: Online submission of assignments and tests in a simple and convenient way.

The workshop is designed for analysts, BI professionals, and data developers who already work with SQL on a daily basis and want to take their skills to the next level. In order to dive right into “thinking patterns” and complex use cases, we expect participants to:

  • Complete control of the basics : deep understanding of basic queries, different types of joins, and performing aggregations (Group By).
  • Practical experience in the field: At least six months of experience writing queries against organizational databases.

Why do we even need to learn “thinking patterns” in an era where AI writes SQL in seconds?
The AI is an amazing “performer”, but it depends on the prompt and your guidance. Without a deep understanding of “how the problem should be solved”, you are captive to the result that the AI outputs. Mastering thought patterns allows you to identify in seconds whether the received query makes sense or is wrong.

Is the syllabus suitable for all experience levels?
No. The course is designed for analysts and data scientists who already use SQL on a daily basis. However, the beauty of our format is the flexibility – we build the depth of content together with your professional leaders to ensure that the workshop challenges the team exactly where they are interested.

What is the difference between this workshop and a regular advanced SQL course?
In a regular course, you learn functions, technical techniques that lead to a specific solution. In this workshop, you learn the opposite. Instead of going through a list of commands, we start with use cases and break them down into SQL thinking patterns that can be applied to any data platform.

Is the workshop delivered on a specific database (such as BigQuery or Snowflake)?
The thinking patterns we teach are technology-agnostic, meaning they are true for all types of SQL. However, as part of the customization, we will demonstrate and practice on the syntax and platform that your organization uses on a daily basis.

What do you get at the end of the workshop?
In addition to the knowledge and new mindset, each participant receives a toolbox of ready-to-use SQL templates (Cheat Sheets) for the key use cases we practiced, so that they can apply them to their real data the next morning.

How long does the workshop last?
The standard format is a series of meetings lasting approximately 4 academic hours, but the length and depth can be adjusted according to the needs of the organization and the professional gaps we identified in the preliminary introduction phase.
